Through the familiar story of David and Goliath, your child learned that God is more powerful than even our most fearful enemies. When we believe in Him, and call upon His name, the power of God is there to give us faith and courage. (Scripture used: 1 Samuel 17:20-50)

Practice this verse several times with your child during the week. This will help your child remember the verse and will help to reinforce what he or she learned during class.

Ask your child to go outside with you, and bring along an old can and small ball. Place the can on the ground 10 to 12 feet away and take turns throwing the ball at the can. As you throw the ball at the can, remark how hard it is to hit the can and that David must have practiced for days to become a good shot with his sling. Ask your child what he or she thinks was going through David’s mind when he was face to face with the giant Goliath. Ask if there are any giant problems in your child’s life that he or she needs help defeating. Remember that at this age even small problems can seem gigantic. Explain that God helped David overcome his fears, and He will help us as well.

Dear Lord, You are great and mighty in power, no problems are too big for You. Please help us defeat the giant problems in our lives. When we are with You, there is no need to be afraid. Help us be courageous like David. Amen.
